Choir

Junior Choir (Foundation & Year 1 Students):
The Camberwell Primary School Junior Choir is held on Thursday lunch times in the Junior School Art Room. With this choir we focus on developing fundamental music skills, group singing, and learning basic repertoire in French and English. Students will learn how to participate in choir, and what is expected of choir members. Lesson structure includes team-building activities and warm-ups based on methods such as Kodàly.  After our warm-ups we then learn and practise repertoire, which includes current popular songs and French “comptines”.

Middle Choir (Year 2 & 3 Students):
The Camberwell Primary School Middle choir focuses on further developing fundamental skills previously learned in choir/music classes. The Middle Choir lesson structure remains the same as for Junior Choir, although the difficulty of warm-ups and repertoire changes. We step it up a notch in Middle Choir, and students learn more difficult songs, and learn to sing in parts. In Middle Choir we start to work on dynamics, and in particular, tone: how to sing in a group. Middle Choir repertoire includes contemporary pieces in both English and French.

Senior Choir (Year 4, 5 & 6 Students):
The Camberwell Primary School Senior Choir is a small-group choir with a focus on technique and more advanced skills. Senior Choir lesson structure remains the same as for Middle Choir, although the difficulty of warm-ups and repertoire changes. Again we step it up a notch in Senior Choir, and students learn more difficult songs, learn to sing in harmony, with appropriate pitch and tone, as well as passing in some solos in particular numbers. Senior Choir repertoire includes contemporary pieces in both English and French.

Guitar Program

Camberwell Primary School, through Junior Rockers offers extra-curricular guitar programs in two different formats.

“Small-Group” lessons provide students with the opportunity to work closely with an experienced teacher. The children also benefit from practising playing with others, as this develops their overall musicality. These lessons are inexpensive and run after school in the music room or art room.

Private lessons are also offered, with the benefit of your child having the teacher’s full attention. These lessons are somewhat more expensive, but have additional benefits. Private lessons are also held in the music or art rooms before and after school.

If you are interested in extra-curricular guitar lessons, or would like to know more, please contact Junior Rockers on info@juniorrockers.com. Please note that all students need their own guitar for these lessons. Guitars can be purchased locally from the Music Junction. It is advisable to check enrolment availability with Junior Rockers before purchasing an instrument.
